Year 9G Research Science

From crystals to squid!

Year 9 Research Science started off this year with an investigation into growing crystals and the class got quite a surprise at how big some of them grew! The students discovered that the surface the crystals grow on seemed to make a big difference to crystal size, but not to crystal shape.

The second unit the students have been studying is comparative biology. In this unit they have been discovering the differences between humans, worms, fish and squid. On occasion it has been quite and olfactory experience!

Year 11 Biology excursion to Werribee zoo

Biology students had a great time at Werribee zoo. The newborn tiger cubs were a pleasure to watch. The talk about herbivores and carnivores was quite educational and interesting as the students got to observe and touch a snake. The walk around the zoo was very informative and interesting as the students observed and learnt about various animals and their behaviour. The best part of the excursion was the safari tour through which the students got a feel of the real habitats of these animals.
